The question today is what if Microsoft and Apple merged? Lets pretend for a moment that Microsoft and Apple put away their spike covered clubs and large sharp machetes to strike a deal. Lets say that they merged into one company so that they can each gain from each others ideas and solutions. Lets also pretend that they decided to make the best damned operating system known to man.
How would this affect our current computer market? What do you think this new company would be called? Would we see a new company emerge like a phoenix rising from the ashes of so much controversy? would Mac and PC fanboy’s alike throw down their gloves and embrace each other in a sick and twisted version of our favorite campfire songs? These questions I leave to you, my readers…

Microsoft would cause Apple to crash and burn. There is nothing positive that can come from the merger besides pissed off Mac users.
I currently use the brand new iMac and don’t want to see M$ crapllications anywhere near my Linux OS.
It would be cool if they merged into one company so everyone would stop fighting over which one is better. But then wouldn’t that be a monopoly? One company that controls the OS market. Yeah we still have Linux but common they are no competition when it comes to Apple or Microsoft.
Though if they did merge together then Microsoft might actually be able to produce an OS that wouldn’t crash during a demonstration. They might actually learn a thing or too from the developers over at Apple. And those wacky Apple guys might learn that a mouse should have 2 buttons not one.
Microsoft will not assimilate. Resistance is futile. Okay, enough of the Star Trek quotes. I think that this would be a very bad move. Microsoft is all about proprietary code and Mac is all about proprietary hardware. Put them together and the majority of ingenuity goes out the window.
First put Steve Ballmer to pasture. Second, closedown Windows Vista. Third, buy VMWare or develop a Windows virtual environment, and integrate Windows XP into Mac OS X, to provide a transition path for full Mac OS X environment. Finally, make all current Microsoft Products to conform to national and international standards.
Microsoft’s bureaucracy would effectivly kill Apple’s lean culture. Worst idea I’ve heard in some time.

The price for software would still be high as crap!
