The question for today is what if there was no more internet? We all live in a society that has an online heart beat. Whether it be by blogging or by keeping in touch with each other through social networks such as Twitter or Myspace. Our businesses thrive online at a pace that brick and mortar shops only dream of. We buy our clothes, gifts, needs and pleasures of life on the internet. We have become integrated into a world where the internet is just as essential to life as vehicles or telephones.
What if one day not only did your home computers get infected but the whole of the internet network and all the backbone servers got infected by a virus that destroyed any system it was on. Also lets say we didn’t have any way to recover from this problem. How would we function as a whole? Would we go back to the days of pen, paper and calculator or would we plunge into chaos and disarray without our digital extremeties? I leave these questions to you, my readers.

If there was no internet then I’d be out of work. Then I’d be doing some manual labor job-thingy and my body would be put into shape. I’d probably stop smoking and engage myself into all sort of outdoor sports.
Sometimes I wish that the internet will die!
complete madness…..and a point of vulnerability for our nation. Think about the issues you have when you go to the grocery store and the debit card machine isn’t working and the stupid cashier acts like he/she doesn’t know how to manually punch in the numbers, it would probably be mind boggling if they had to go back to calling the CC company to verify and then put the card in that bulky sliding thing and then take the paper out and then have you sign. It is all about comfort and ease and power. we would be uncomfortable, on edge, and sitting ducks.
Humanity have always had or strived to have networks of communication. Be it smoke signals, books (quite the latency affected network) or light emission carriers in TCP/IP. Internet may be the biggest network today but even if it were to crash beyond repair I have no doubt we would overcome and transcend the disaster by building an even better network.
I would be out of a job but damn if I wouldn’t have the greatest reason to finally learn morse code!
@Jackie G.: “we would be [..] sitting ducks” – why do I assume you’re american?
If there was no more internet then the world would implode plain and simple.
